At the Ruhr University Bochum a new café was established for students, employees and professors. During the major overhaul of the main refractory the café was used for provision of hot meals. The beautiful view in the Ruhr valley and the topography are guidelines for the design of the open space.
A concrete ramp follows the line of the main entrance and reaches out of the slope in front of the building – offering an opportunity to linger. Terraces for seating in fair-faced concrete , supporting a hillside, relieve the view. A generous terrace offers space for outside catering during the summer.
